Brussels sprouts are often met with hesitation, but I've found a way to make them irresistible—even to those who claim not to like them. Inspired by Jamie Oliver's quick and easy recipe, this version brings out the best in Brussels sprouts, combining crispy edges with a tender bite, all in just 8 minutes of cooking time! The key? Thinly slicing the sprouts with a food processor, which saves time and creates a perfect texture. While I’ve added a personal twist with onions, a splash of wine, and some extra seasoning, the result is a dish that’s delicious and simple to prepare. Trust me, even sprout skeptics will be converted!
Ingredients:
8 slices bacon
1/2 cup diced onions
8 to 10 cups Brussels sprouts, thinly sliced
½ cup wine, chicken stock, or water
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
4-5 fresh sage leaves (or 1 tsp. dried sage)
1 tbsp salt
2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp smoked paprika (or any paprika)
Optional: 2 tbsp of your favorite seasoning mix
Instructions:
Cook the bacon: Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry it in a large pan over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside, then pour out most of the bacon fat, leaving just a little in the pan.
Sauté the onions: Add the diced onions to the pan and sauté for 1 minute, until they soften.
Add Brussels sprouts: Stir in the thinly sliced Brussels sprouts, fresh or dried sage, salt, pepper, and any seasoning mix you prefer. Stir well to combine.
Add liquid: Pour in the wine (or chicken stock/water) and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Finish the dish: Add the Worcestershire sauce and cook for another 3 minutes, or until the Brussels sprouts are tender and the flavors meld together.
Serve and enjoy: Eat your Brussels sprouts while they're hot and enjoy! This dish also reheats well, though it may lose some of its vibrant color.
Note: These Brussels sprouts are perfect for making ahead and can be enjoyed warm or reheated, making them a versatile dish for any meal.
