This savory-sweet apple cornbread combines sharp cheddar, smoky bacon, and crunchy apples in every bite! Perfect as a side for chili or BBQ beans, or simply as a cozy snack.
Ingredients:
½ cup cornmeal
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1 cup milk or buttermilk
¼ cup melted butter
1 large egg
½ cup diced apples
¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup cooked bacon, chopped
Instructions:
Prep: Preheat oven to 450°F. Grease a 9-inch skillet or baking pan.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, and baking powder.
Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat together milk, melted butter, and egg until smooth. Pour into dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Fold: Gently fold in apples, cheddar, and bacon.
Bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Tips:
Swap buttermilk for extra tenderness.
Try different cheese varieties for unique flavor twists!
