When my daughter recently told me how much she struggles with recipe blogs overloaded with ads, I knew I had to step in. She asked for a Sloppy Joe recipe that wasn’t just classic but a little extra—something with bold flavors and the perfect consistency. Challenge accepted!

After a few messy (and delicious) test runs—too much ketchup here, a little bland there—I finally nailed it. The secret? A touch of chili powder for warmth and cumin to give it depth. These aren’t just any Sloppy Joes; they’re Pimped Sloppy Joes, crafted with love and a dash of determination.

Creating recipes for the people I love is one of my greatest joys, and keeping my blog ad-free is my way of making sure you get straight to the good stuff. No interruptions, no fuss—just delicious food that brings people together.

So, here’s to my daughter and to anyone else who loves a good Sloppy Joe without the hassle of scrolling past ads! Let’s get cooking.

Here is a tip I learned working as a sous-chef in restaurants, it saves me so much time and mess. I take out my large baking pan or two smaller one, line it with parchment paper and break up the meat evenly. I then add salt, pepper and some of the spices I will use in my recipe. I bake it at 400 F for 15 minutes max. It’s an easy drain of the extra fat and liquids before adding to my sauce. I also use this technique for spaghetti sauce, Sheppard’s Pie etc.

Pimped Sloppy Joes

  • 3 lb (1350 g) lean or medium ground beef

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 3 (8 oz/28 g) cans tomato sauce

  • 3/4 cup tomato ketchup
