A simple and quick recipe, perfect for a sugar shack meal or a cozy Sunday dinner. These maple-glazed braised carrots pair beautifully with mashed potatoes and ham or any comforting dish.
Easy to prepare: Only 5 ingredients and ready in 30 minutes.
Authentic flavor: Maple sugar enhances the carrots with a sweet, caramelized touch.
Versatile: Can be adapted with different vegetables and spices.
500 g (1 lb) carrots, peeled and cut to your preference
2 tbsp butter (or more, depending on the amount of carrots)
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tsp cumin or nutmeg, to taste
1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth (adjust if needed)
1/4 cup maple sugar (or more, depending on desired sweetness)
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a glass baking dish, arrange the carrots and add the butter, salt, pepper, and cumin or nutmeg.
Pour the broth over the carrots and roast for 15 minutes.
Remove from the oven, stir the carrots, then sprinkle with maple sugar.
Return to the oven for another 10 to 15 minutes, until the carrots are tender and caramelized.
Switch up the vegetables: Try this recipe with sweet potatoes, parsnips, or butternut squash.
Adjust the sweetener: Substitute maple sugar with brown sugar or maple syrup.
Customize the spices: Replace cumin with nutmeg, ground coriander, or any spice of your choice.
